Innovators Under 35 Europe: The First Italian Edition of the Award for Young Innovators Kicks Off
The latest edition of the international award for young innovators, organised by MIT Technology Review Italia, was unveiled at the Gazometro during Maker Faire Rome. Applications are open until 15 May 2027.
On Friday 23 October, we hosted the launch of the new edition of Innovators Under 35 Europe at the Gazometro in Rome. This international award is organised by MIT Technology Review Italia in collaboration with eFM AND Opinno, with the support of ROAD and Eni. For the first time, the awards ceremony will take place in Italy, bringing to Rome an international initiative dedicated to emerging talent in innovation.
The presentation took place as part of the 14th edition of Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition, an event that brings together businesses, research organisations, universities and key players in the field of innovation. This setting is perfectly in line with ROAD’s mission to connect different areas of expertise and sectors, fostering dialogue between applied research, business and new technologies.
Originating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s long-standing journal, MIT Technology Review, the prize recognises individuals under 35 who develop technologies and solutions capable of making a significant scientific, social and economic impact. Previous recipients include Larry Page, Linus Torvalds and Mark Zuckerberg.
Innovation can open up new possibilities for younger generations, offering them the tools and opportunities to help shape the future. This is where ROAD comes in: to facilitate the coming together of talent, research, businesses and technology, creating connections that can guide ideas towards new opportunities for development.
The call for entries for the 2026–2027 edition is open until 15 May 2027 and is aimed at people under 35 residing in participating European countries. You can apply directly or nominate others. Applications will be assessed by experts and a panel of judges across nine impact areas, ranging from artificial intelligence to biotechnology, and from climate tech to cybersecurity. The 35 winners will be honoured in autumn 2027.
In addition to the award, Innovators Under 35 Europe aims to develop a European community that connects talent, research, businesses, universities, institutions and professionals, fostering the exchange of expertise and the creation of new collaborations.
